Anybody with rats can tell you that rats LOVE treats! Fishing for rats with noodles is a fun way to give your rats an extra-special treat. Any kind of long skinny noodle will work, but I use whole wheat pasta because it's healthier. Cook the pasta, cool it off, and then dangle the noodles near some rats... and watch the cuteness ensue!

Unfortunately Mica's baby boys (now grown up boys of course) wouldn't stop bugging her. There was no fighting but Mica didn't want to leave the safety of her igloo after a while and so Mica's dad made the wonderful decision to split them up and adopt a little girl rattie for Mica.

Annabelle came to us in October via a local shelter who got in 2 litters of rats. Same old story - A family bought 2 female rats at a surprise who were already pregnant. When they talked to the store, the store said that they would take them back as snake food. Luckily for the babies, the family wouldn't let that happen and surrendered them to the shelter instead. The shelter never had rats before and wasn't equipped to house them. So they asked us for helped. All of the babies from the 2 litters we took in have since been adopted.

Annabelle and Mica instantly bonded and as you can see from the picture, they are best friends! Awwwwwww!

Remember little tiny Benny? He was one of our first rescues almost a year ago. He was abandoned at the side of a highway in Victoria. Luckily he was found alive and made it to the Victoria SPCA. He was extremely fearful and so they asked us if we would be willing to take him in.

After a few weeks in foster care we received a wonderful application from somebody in WA who was looking for another male rat to add to her mischief.

As you can see from the picture, Benny is doing great and integrated well with the other ratties in his forever home! Yay Benny!!!

Just wanted to post a quick update about Mica. She's been home for a couple of days now and she's doing great! Mica acted like she never left... she jumped into my lap as soon as I let her out of her travel carrier and she was immediately boggling away. We've had lots of time to hang out together the past two days but she has seemed pretty lonely in the cage by herself, so I decided to start reintroducing her to her sons right away.

They did really well! They spent 2 hours together on the couch today with no signs of aggression. The boys sniffed her like crazy and she was very patient. It's amazing how much bigger they are than their mom.

The intro went so well I think they will be able to move in together tomorrow. I will let them hang out together for a while on the couch again, then I'll scrub the cage down and rearrange everything so nobody feels too territorial. Hopefully they'll continue to get along so Mica can have some ratty company again!

Thanks to everybody who has been supporting Mica and LMR with kind words, donations, participating in fundraisers, and helping organize the transportation for Mica. It's really appreciated!

Here's a picture of Mica hanging out with her boys Izzy, George, and Joe

Less than 24 hours after her surgery and I'm just BLOWN AWAY how INCREDIBLY WELL she is doing.

The only way I can explain it is that her leg while it was still there was very painful and even though she had massive surgery, it actually feels better now. Incision looks great and she's being a good girl!

She's in incredible good spirits, moves around just fine. She's eating well, totally trashed the whole cage last night, flipped all the bowls around and shredded her fleece blankie.

She has things to do and places too see!
