Just a few days later we received a wonderful application from a great family who was looking for a guinea pig as a companion for their little three legged guinea pig who was depressed because he had recently lost his partner in crime. After the home visit we were happy to approve this wonderful family!

We flew Lucien over to Vancouver thanks to Pacific Coastal and he spent a few weeks in quarantine to make sure he was healthy.

About a week ago he went to his forever home. The two piglets have since been successfully introduced to each other! I think the picture says it all :-)

Frankie was the most beautiful chocolate colored piglet. A big boy weighing in at 1.5 kg. Just a big sweetheart.

Unfortunately Frankie was recently diagnosed with congestive heart failure and he lost his battle last night.

Poor Bill is now all alone again. He'd really like a home with another male or spayed female guinea pig. Please get in touch with us if you are interested in adopting him. He's a really sweet boy who deserves a home of his own.

Little Miss Piggy came to us at the end of June. We don't often take in other species, we are mainly a rat/ferret rescue but we got suckered in big time - A man called us and claimed that he found this poor pig running around and that he went to the shelter who told him that they were full. He supposedly didn't know what to do with the little one. "Poor little piggy, has nowhere to go" we thought - So we agreed to take her in. The next day we found out that the guinea pig actually belonged to her daughter who supposedly was allergic and they wanted to surrender it to the shelter which was full. So he called us, lied and we got suckered in. They transported her in a box inside of a garbage bag. So much for a beloved pet.

At least the little one was safe and didn't get dumped outside which would probably have been the next step had we not agreed to take her....

Barb and her cutie pie daughter Lola have been fostering her (and spoiling her rotten) ever since then. Barb stepped up the second we got the call and offered to foster her. We really couldn't do it without our wonderful foster homes! Thank you Barb & Lola for taking such good care of her!

Later today Miss Piggy will fly to her forever home in Comox thanks to Pacific Coastal. She will have an amazing home with Tansy and best of all - Miss Piggy is getting a piggy friend which is so important with social animals! We couldn't be happier!

Yes, we are mainly a rat & ferret rescue but all of our volunteers love any type of animals and we will help wherever we can.

So when Christy went to the CRD Pound on Christmas Eve to spend with the poor animals who have to spend Christmas in a shelter instead of loving forever home she quickly fell for two guinea pigs who were sitting at the shelter. The two were abandoned in a park in Victoria. Nobody came forward to claim them. We decided that the two shouldn't have to spend Christmas in a shelter and so Christy took them home.

We named them Kringle and Noelle. Both have since been treated for mites. Kringle the male has really chewed up ears and has a bit of necrosis going on at the tip of one of his ears and Noelle will be on pregnancy watch for another month.

Both are available for adoption but won't leave foster care until we know for sure that Noelle isn't pregnant and that both fully recovered from their ordeal. Guinea pigs are very social animals so we are looking to adopt them to a home that already has one or more same sex guinea pigs. As an alternative we are looking into possibly having Kringle neutered so that the two could live together again but we need to discuss it with our vet first to see if he's comfortable doing it.

We said it before and we are saying it once again: Please don't be a coward and abandon your pets outside! It was extremely lucky that the two were found alive, most animals that get abandoned aren't that lucky! So if you are no longer able or willing to keep your pets, please at least do the right thing and find them a new home yourself or surrender them to a local shelter or rescue!
