Toshia surprised us today sending us this fantastic video that her husband made with pictures of their daughter Alexis and their ratties. All of the ratties except for Snowflake were adopted from us. All the girls are spayed.

The video features the following lucky ratties:

Mambo - Was left behind in an apartment when the owner moved. Luckily he was found in time and we took him in.

Adriana & Lucia - We took in a whole family that was surrendered to the Van SPCA consisting of mom Adriana, dad Buddy, daughter from 1st litter Lucia, son from 1st litter Ivan as well has a whole litter of newborns (10 babies).

Ruby/Roxy/Reba - Owner surrender who couldn't keep the males/females separated. We took in 17 females (they kept the males), if we hadn't stepped in when we did we would probably look at dealing with 300 rats in need now.

Remy & Rocco - Person bought pregnant rat at pet store, those are 2 of the 5 babies we took in.

Lucky Lucy - The lucky little girl who managed to escape from Alberta.

Snowflake - Ex lab rat from WSU.

Needless to say all these rats hit the jackpot when they were adopted by this wonderful family! It really brings tears to our eyes every time we see that these rats finally have what they all deserve - A forever home that loves them, appreciates them and spoils them rotten every single day!

A really happy update from Lucky Lucy, the beautiful little girl who managed to escape from Alberta. In case you missed her story, you can read about it here

She was successfully spayed and went to her forever home about 3 weeks ago. She moved in with Remy II and Rocco, two other rats adopted from us, as well as Snowflake, another spayed girl that was recently rescued from a lab after her tests were done. The four have successfully been introduced and have been living together for about two weeks now.

We couldn't be more thrilled that Lucky Lucy found such a fantastic forever home and has some new friends!

Today is a good day because four special boys were adopted today!

John, Paul, Ringo and Bob were surrendered to a shelter in the interior. The shelter manager is allergic to rats so she asked us to take them in. Courtenay in Kamloops was fostering them for a few months (thanks Courtenay!!!) and we had zero inquiries for them. See, they had several strikes against them:
- There's four of them
- They are older (approx. 1 1/2 yrs old)
- Three have pink eyes
- Three look the same at first sight

Unfortunately a lot of people put the look of a rat before they look at a rat's personality. These four boys couldn't be any sweeter and it saddened us that they were just overlooked time and time again.

About two weeks ago we flew them to me in Vancouver after Mica, Kimmy and Stephanie were adopted. We wanted to free up Courtenay as a quarantine foster/foster and I was hoping that I could get some magical pictures of them that would make people fall in love with them. We also posted them everywhere we could think of trying to pull off a miracle by finding them a forever home together.

A few days ago Sarah came forward and said she is interested in adopting the boys. Lizzy, Cheryl and I had already met her a few years ago. We actually bought her Martins cage just a few months ago after she lost her boy and she decided she didn't want to have rats anymore. Rats can break a person. They have so much personality, a lot like a little dog. But their lifespan is only 2-3 years. We call them "the heartbreak pet" - When you love rats, you unfortunately often get your heart broken because they leave you way too early. For a lot of people it just gets too much and they can't deal with all the heartbreak.

Anyway, after a few months without rats, Sarah misses having them around and so the four boys moved in with her today! Lucky boys! Lucky Sarah too because these boys are incredibly sweet!

With the four boys having been adopted we also achieved another milestone - 151 rats adopted since we started in November 2007!!!

Just wanted to post a quick update about Mica. She's been home for a couple of days now and she's doing great! Mica acted like she never left... she jumped into my lap as soon as I let her out of her travel carrier and she was immediately boggling away. We've had lots of time to hang out together the past two days but she has seemed pretty lonely in the cage by herself, so I decided to start reintroducing her to her sons right away.

They did really well! They spent 2 hours together on the couch today with no signs of aggression. The boys sniffed her like crazy and she was very patient. It's amazing how much bigger they are than their mom.

The intro went so well I think they will be able to move in together tomorrow. I will let them hang out together for a while on the couch again, then I'll scrub the cage down and rearrange everything so nobody feels too territorial. Hopefully they'll continue to get along so Mica can have some ratty company again!

Thanks to everybody who has been supporting Mica and LMR with kind words, donations, participating in fundraisers, and helping organize the transportation for Mica. It's really appreciated!

Here's a picture of Mica hanging out with her boys Izzy, George, and Joe
