We were contacted in November about a ferret that had been rescued by a wonderful woman from a horrible situation.
Leaway was owned by a girl and when she left home she left her little ferret behind. Mom did not like the ferret and would tie her to a rope and put her on the patio to spray her with a hose. The children in the house would throw her or drop her. Poor little Leaway was terrified and just wanted to hide. She also had some trouble walking. The lady who have saved Leaway asked LMR to help as she felt that Leaway’s medical issues were above what she could take care, but she was more then happy to become a volunteer with LMR. Leaway visited Dr. Walton and it was discovered that she had a past back injury that healed wrong and her blood sugars were low. Leaway came to stay at “The Zurberg Zoo – Ferret Hospice Centre” aka Markus and Teresa’s. Even with everything she had been through, Leaway still liked people and was always full of kisses. Her health stabilized after about a week, but there still seemed to be something just not right. After 2 more visits to Dr. Walton and lots of TLC, Leaway was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor and we had to let this sweet little ball of love go. |
